What to expect when switching to a new family dentist in North Surrey
We understand that switching family dental clinics can feel intimidating. So we’d like to offer some reassurance. It’s a smooth process with just a few things to keep in mind.
For instance, we require information regarding your insurance provider and medications. You receive a comprehensive dental exam; an opportunity to discuss your concerns and dental care goals; a care plan going forward; and a chance to have all your questions answered.
New family dental clinic expectations
- Information: insurance provider, current medications, previous dental records
- Receive a comprehensive dental exam
- Discussion regarding oral care, concerns, goals, options, questions
Information
Information we’ll need from you includes your insurance provider (e.g. the Canadian Dental Care Plan--see note below), as well as a current list of medications. Your previous dental records can also be helpful. You can ask your former dentist for them or give us their name and we’ll track them down.
Dental exam
You’ll be treated to a comprehensive dental exam where the dentist will carefully check your teeth for signs of decay, cracks or other damage. They’ll also check for signs of gum disease and oral cancer.
Additionally, we will update your dental x-rays if there are no current x-rays in the records from your previous family dental clinic.
Discussion and customising your oral care plan
Your new dentist would love to know everything you’re experiencing with regard to your teeth, gums and smile. Here are some likely topics:
- Any pains or sensitivity?
- Had past bad experiences with dentists?
- Any fears or anxieties?
- Any concerns?
- What’s your current oral health routine?
- General medical history
- Interest in cosmetic procedures (whitening, orthodontics, veneers, gum contouring, implants
- Have any goals with regards to your teeth or smile?
Once the dentist has the information from your dental exam and the answer to questions like those above, they’ll be able to develop a care plan for you going forward. You’ll get a chance to discuss options and ask questions.
Our goal is to make your transition to a new family dental clinic a seamless, informative and comfortable experience.
