2025
It's a New Year - It couldn't be a better time to improve your smile with braces

Whether or not you’ve made a resolution, 2025 is the year to improve your smile with braces!
And why not? You have everything to gain. Because crooked or gaping teeth can affect more than just your appearance (thus your self-esteem and confidence). They can also affect speaking, eating, oral hygiene and even the joints of your jaw.
Orthodontic braces can fix issues with:
- Speaking - slurring, lisping
- Eating - misaligned bite
- Oral hygiene - brushing, flossing
- Jaw joint pain - TMJ (temporomandibular Joint)
Left untreated, many of these issues can develop into serious problems.
For instance, eating with a misaligned bite puts additional stress on your teeth, muscles, ligaments and joints in your face. Results range from damage to teeth, TMJ disorder, headaches, backaches and increased tension.
When oral hygiene is affected, it’s difficult to clean your teeth effectively. This leads to an increase in cavities and the risk of gum disease (gingivitus & the more serious periodontitis).
The solution that addresses all of these issues is orthodontic braces.
Braces have come a long way over the decades when each tooth was encircled with a full metal band, earning you the nickname ‘metalmouth’.
Now, there are more discreet, less invasive options available, including a smaller attachment style on the outside of the teeth in metal or ceramic, or, on the inside of the teeth, called lingual braces.
Another popular treatment, called Invisalign, consists of a series of plastic trays that gradually moves your teeth into their optimal positions. The best candidates for Invisalign will have good oral hygiene, good compliance with wearing the trays and need only minor adjustments to get things just right. An Invisalign orthodontist in North Surrey can check to see if your situation fits the bill.
Additionally, the CDCP (Canadian Dental Care Plan) will be adding orthodontic services in a limited capacity in 2025, covering medical need cases only and based on strict criteria.
Orthodontic braces can be worn by both adults and children. However, it can be advantageous to fit braces while children are still growing. So check in with a dentist early if you have teeth crowding (or gaping) concerns for your child.
If you’re an adult, having gone your whole life with crooked or ill-spaced teeth, and endured all that comes with it, why not come in and talk to us? We’ll tailor an orthodontic solution just for you. The beautiful smile you’ve always wanted is within your reach this year.
