What are the advantages of digital x-rays

Most people would agree that making dental care easier is a welcomed change. In the world of dentist technology, that comes in the form of digital x-rays.

Moving Forward with Digital Technology

Moving from analog to digital technology provides a number of advantages to today's dentists. Not only is taking digital x-rays faster, it's also safer and more versatile. It eliminates a huge amount of paperwork, thus making it environmentally friendly too. Let's take a look at all of those advantages.

Safer and Low Radiation

Safer: Digital x-rays have a much lower dose of radiation (up to 90%), providing a safer environment for both patients and staff.

Efficiency and Speed

Faster: X-ray images are taken and uploaded to a computer, making them instantly available. If the original image didn't capture what was needed, it's quick and simple to take another. This makes for much more efficient appointments.

Enhanced Versatility

Versatile: Digital x-rays are better quality images. Using a computer allows those images to be magnified and enhanced. Notes, measurements, and markers can be added directly to the images. Images can be easily sent via email to other providers with the click of a button. All of this allows for more accurate diagnoses for patients.

Environmental Benefits

Environmentally friendly: Digital images don't have to be developed, so the need for dark rooms and chemical processors is completely removed. Paper charts can all but be eliminated as patient files are put on disk. This is a huge reduction in paper waste and thus better for the environment. Plus, eliminating developing rooms and file storage means less space is required office-wide.
