What are Dental Veneers?June 15th, 2018 | by Riverside Dental | in Dental Services | 0
Dental veneers are a dental treatment used to hide stained, chipped, or gapped teeth. Made out of a thin piece of porcelain which is placed on the tooth to recreate the natural look of the teeth, the procedure also provides strength and resilience to the tooth. Veneers are an irreversible treatment, so it is important to discuss thoroughly with your dentist prior to requesting the treatment.
How are Veneers Placed
Usually, placing veneers takes at least two office visits with your dentist. Local anaesthesia is not typically required during the process, though some patients may find that they prefer to have it. When the veneer is placed, the dentist will remove some of the tooth’s enamel and will apply the veneer using an adhesive which is cured with light. Any excess material will then be removed and the margins of the veneer will be polished. A follow-up appointment is generally scheduled to check for comfort and comfortable fit later on.
Caring for Veneers
With veneers, it is important to brush and floss as you would with your regular teeth. Consider avoiding staining foods such as coffee, and use a non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste. Veneers will eventually need to be replaced, but taking proper care of them will allow them to last as long as possible.
If you are considering veneers, be sure to discuss with your dentist to help evaluate. Veneers can provide a long term solution for a beautiful smile.
