Brighten Your Smile This Summer with Veneers
Summer changes everything: the sun brings out more smiles; we do more socialising and appear in many more photographs. The holiday season is a perfect time to schedule non-urgent treatments, like dental veneers. The time required for this procedure will vary, but range from one to three appointments. This is because fitting veneers requires little or no preparation of the surface of the tooth, and usually no anaesthetic. This is because veneers are a very uninvasive route to beautiful teeth.
Veneers are created from a thin layer of porcelain or laminate very similar to the tooth’s own enamel. They are either built up on the tooth directly, or constructed by a technician and then bonded to the front of the teeth using a resin cement. The original surface of the tooth is roughened slightly, though in some cases this is not necessary.
Dental veneers were invented in Hollywood, (where else!), to give actors the brightest smiles possible. Today they can do much more than adjust the colour of the teeth. Veneers can be made to fit the shape of the teeth exactly, but are more commonly used to even out the appearance of the underlying teeth. Along with whitening, dental veneers are a means of closing gaps, covering cracks and making teeth look straighter. Large numbers of people are choosing veneers instead of crowns, especially when the issue at hand is one of enhancement rather than treatment.
Veneers are more resistant to stains from things like red wine and coffee than natural teeth, which is excellent news, because they will last. The improved aesthetic will boost confidence in your smile – so you can give your widest grin in all those summer photographs!
